Self-Publish Ninja
So... you are a Writer! Now what? Do you want to take your writing to the next level? By sharing and self-publishing your work, you BECOME an author! The resources below are here to help you through the writing process and on your way to publishing your work (in a wide variety of formats)
Step #1Brainstorming & Visualizing it!
Without censoring yourself.... brainstorm and visualize the story that you want to make. The kinds of things that you are interested in as they spill out on the paper will be the seeds for the story. These are the things you are feeling a passion for... and the best place to start a story.
One of the most important aspects of a story is the MAIN CHARACTER. If you have the story concept, take time now to really think deeply about your main character.... what are his or her character traits, good and bad habits, hobbies, mood, fears, hopes, dreams. If you spend time developing a character now, you can put that character into any story and make it interesting. Scroll below for a longer list of ideas on how to generate ideas. |
Step #2Writing it!
After you have brainstormed and visualized the project, including thinking about the main character.... now it's time to start writing.
Below you will find some tips including advice on how to start, as well as basic story structure. The HOOK Every great story starts with a powerful opening chapter with a "hook" that grabs the reader and entice them to read more. The STORYBOARD The storyboard attached below is often used for film projects but you can also use it to structure out main plot points of the story. Break it down into the key plot turns! There is a place for you to draw and doodle too which sometimes help with your creative thinking. OR... use the storyboard for an illustrated book.

Step #3Revising it!
Make sure you proofread and do a peer review so that you create a really great product.
The following is a Self & Peer Review sheet for a children's book project. Many of the same ideas apply to all types of stories.
